The Sports Show Opening Reception

We hope you will join us for the opening reception of "The Sports Show,” as we honor the alumni whose work has been included in the exhibition. The reception is free and open to the public, and you do not need to RSVP.

"The Sports Show" opened on Saturday, August 22, and has received press coverage from Time, Sports Illustrated, Forbes and Art Info. Presented by the
 SVA Alumni Society, the exhibition brings together more than 30 leading artists and designers who graduated from SVA in commercial design and advertising, film and video, illustration and cartooning, motion graphics, painting and photography. These alumni are behind some of the most iconic imagery and creative direction in the world of sports.

After School Special 2015: SVA's Alumni Film and Animation Festival

Featuring some of SVA’s most accomplished film, television, animation and visual effects alumni, this multi-day festival will include screenings, premieres of new work and behind-the-scenes looks at cinema and television hits and classics. All events will feature special Q&As with industry insiders.

Screenings include: 
  • A Tribute to Bill Plympton. Join renowned animator Bill Plympton (1969 Cartooning) for a special screening of his Academy Award-nominated short Your Face (1987), the New York City premiere of his new short film The Loneliest Stoplight (2015) and more.
  • Amazon’s Transparent. Join NewFest and New York Women in Film and Television for this special presentation of Amazon’s Emmy-nominated comedy series, featuring one of the show’s associate producers and stars, Zackary Drucker (BFA 2005 Photography).
  • FOX’s Family Guy and Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey (2014). Join Kara Vallow (BFA 1985 Media Arts), executive producer of two of Seth MacFarlane’s hit shows, for a special presentation of two recent episodes as you’ve never seen them before—on the big screen!

SVA at SIGGRAPH 2015

SVA faculty and staff recently attended the 2015 SIGGRAPH conference, the premier international event on computer graphics and interactive techniques, which took place August 9 – 13 in Los Angeles. For an overview of the event, visit the SVA blog.

In conjunction with the conference, SVA hosted an industry and alumni reception at the Figueroa Hotel on Monday, August 10. The event welcomed more than 60 alumni and representatives from Blue Sky, Walt Disney TV Animation, The Third Floor and Titmouse. Save the Date | Will Eisner: The Spirit 75th Anniversary Celebration

Mark your calendars for Will Eisner: The Spirit 75th Anniversary Celebration—An Evening with Jules Feiffer and Paul Levitz, an event presented by the SVA Alumni Society in partnership with the Will and Ann Eisner Family Foundation. 

The event will take place on November 11 at the SVA Theatre, and proceeds will benefit the SVA Alumni Society’s Will Eisner Sequential Art Fund.
